When you come for a meal at Restaurant domestic, you are sure to enjoy simple cooking made from locally produced ingredients. The cuisine is Michelin-standard and every dish is made from ingredients that have been selected based on their consideration of animal welfare and sustainability.
Prestigious Michelin star 2024
Restaurant Domestic has received a prestigious Michelin star every year since 2017, making it one of the recognised Michelin restaurants in Aarhus. In 2024, they were again honoured with Michelin's Green Star for their focus on the environment and sustainability.
100% local
The menu at Domestic is based on 100% local Danish ingredients from nature and small suppliers. With their local philosophy, they create as sustainable a journey as possible from ‘farm to fork’. You won't find ingredients like lemon, vanilla, chocolate and pepper in their menu. The food is prepared with care for the environment, flavoured with a high gastronomic level and ancient fermentation processes. Resturant Domestic is also the first restaurant of its kind to offer a beverage pairing with exclusively Danish producers.
Zero waste and sustainable consideration
At Domestic, sustainability is a core value. Everything from reducing food waste to working closely with small local suppliers is prioritised. The menu follows the changing seasons, with ingredients always fresh and in season, ensuring optimal flavour, quality and minimal environmental impact.
In the kitchen, fermentation plays a key role in preserving seasonal ingredients. Through pickling, salting and drying, Domestic extends the life of the ingredients and utilises leftovers to avoid food waste.
In addition, Domestic also emphasises social sustainability. With a focus on a healthy and balanced working life, they want to inspire the restaurant industry to create gastronomic experiences without physical and mental strain for employees - both now and in the future.
In 2024, Domestic's sustainable work was recognised internationally when they received three circles in the 360° Eat Guide and four radishes in the We're Smart® Green Guide.

At Domestic there is room for everyone and the atmosphere is relaxed and informal, but still characterised by high professionalism.
The full menu offers a complete experience of Domestic's universe, while the short version offers an insight. From Tuesday to Thursday you can also experience The Essence - a four-course menu that captures the essence of Domestic's local and sustainable approach.
Every Friday and Saturday from 12:00 noon the restaurant also offers lunch and in the summer Domestic opens its cosy patio where you can start your dinner with the restaurant's special aperitif.
Finish your experience in Domestic's charming wine cellar, which houses Aarhus' oldest well. Here you can sink into the soft chairs and enjoy the restaurant's homemade avecs or their creative petit fours.
