What animals are allowed on public transport in the Aarhus Region

In the Aarhus Region you can bring small dogs, cats and other animals on all buses and Light Rail free of charge if they are placed in a handbag or similar on your lap and if they remain in the bag for the entire journey.

City buses

Dogs that cannot fit in a handbag are not allowed on city buses.

Other buses

Dogs that cannot fit in a handbag can be taken on other buses at the child fare. Dogs must always be kept on a short leash and must not disturb other travellers or make a mess on the bus. Animals are not allowed to sit on the seats. The driver can refuse to take an animal if the driver believes that the animal may disturb other travellers.

Light rail

Dogs that do not fit in a handbag can be travelling at a child fare. This does not apply on the Skolebakken - Universitetshospitalet route during rush hour (7.00 - 9.00 and 15.00 - 17.00 on weekdays). Dogs must always be kept on a short leash and must not disturb other travellers or mess in the Light Rail. Animals are not allowed to sit on the seats.

Midtjyske Jernbaner

Dogs and other small animals are allowed on the train. For dogs that cannot fit in a bag/carrier, a child ticket must be purchased. If the animal is a nuisance to other travellers, the train staff may decide that the animal is not allowed on the train.

Guide dogs/service dogs

Guide dogs labelled with the ‘Man with the white cane’ sign are allowed on all buses free of charge. This also applies to service dogs wearing an ID vest. The owner must be able to show a special ID card.
