Ryes Skanse - Helgenæs
From the carpark there is a marked tour from main entrenchment just south of Dragsmur. General Ryes entrenchment was used during the three-year war 1848-1850, where Rye drew his troops from the border up through Jutland to Helgenæs.
The force was discharged to Funenand from here, there was the decisive battle at Fredericia. The Danes won, but with large losses, amongst others also General Rye. A monument was raised at the entrenchment in 1890. From the top of the entrenchment, you can get an impression of astrong entrenchment, with cannon positions in the northpointing towards the wet areas (where there now aresummer cottages), which totally controlled the entrance toHelgenæs.
