Museum Silkeborg
The main branch of Museum Silkeborg, Hovedgården, is located in Silkeborg's oldest building, Silkeborg Hovedgård, from 1767. Here you can meet the museum's most important figure, the Tollund Man, and at the same time experience a multitude of exciting exhibitions throughout the year, all promising many hours of educational and fun experiences for the whole family.
Museum Silkeborgs Fokus
In Hovedgården, you can immerse yourself in the history of the Silkeborg region from ancient times to the present day, including the history of Silkeborg Castle and the city's emergence in the mid-19th century. The focus of the exhibition from ancient times is on the Iron Age and the world-famous bog body, Tollund Man, a more than 2200-year-old bog body, as well as Elling Woman or Elling Girl, a bog body from around 200 BC, which was found in 1938 in Bjældskovdal about 10 km west of Silkeborg.
History in nature
But you can also experience history in nature. Museum Silkeborg has extended the dissemination of history into nature, where you can follow in the footsteps of Tollund Man, try your luck as a Stone Age hunter on the "luck wheel", learn more about the lake's history, and much more.
