Make apple juice during autumn holidays at Gammel Estrup

At Gammel Estrup Museum in Djursland, during the autumn holidays (week 42), you can experience how people in the old days prepared for the long coming winter and participate in the many cosy apple activities in the Orangeries in the Manor Garden.

In the past, the manor used to prepare for the long winter in autumn. The crops from the garden had to be harvested, cooked and pickled to provide food for the rest of the year. Gammel Estrup's apple orchard contains a lot of old varieties of apples, and apples are the starting point for the activities during the autumn holidays.

Apple orchard and family exhibition about the apples of all time

Pick apples in the apple orchard and watch them turn into organic apple juice in Gammel Estrup's apple orchard in the Orangeries. The manor gardeners will help you press the apples on site and you can buy your own bottle of freshly pressed organic apple juice to take home.

In the Orangeries you can also experience a special exhibition for children and adults about apples and harvest time at the manor in the past.

You can also visit the manor kitchen, where the manor house maid sells coffee and homemade cakes if you're feeling peckish.

Gammel Estrup Danish Manor Museum

Gammel Estrup Danmarks Herrregårdsmuseum is Denmark's only manor house museum where you can step into the history of the Danish manor houses. Since 1930, the museum has worked to preserve and develop Gammel Estrup, while at the same time communicating and researching the fascinating stories of the manor houses. Here you can gain insight into everything from magnificent architecture and beautiful landscapes to culture, history, agriculture and economy - both in Denmark and in an international perspective.
