Jeppe Væktæppe the Troll
The troll Jeppe Væktæppe has moved to Voldum, a cosy town in Favrskov, midway between Aarhus and Randers. Jeppe Væktæppe is a giant troll, but quite peaceful. You'll find him in a small forest where he squats and hides under his colourful rag rug. Drop by and see if you can find him.
Wood art and trolls by artist Thomas Dambo
Hide and seek! Hiding under a blanket and then letting the kids search and find it is always a fun game with children. That's exactly what Jeppe Quilt does - he hides under a blanket. Now children and adults alike can help crawl under the blanket and find Jeppe Quilt, who is sure to be delighted when he is found.
Jeppe Quilt is troll number 33 in Denmark and number 151 worldwide.
The artist Thomas Dambo
Thomas Dambo is a Danish recycling artist, and because he believes that our world is drowning in waste while we are running out of natural resources, Thomas Dambo quit his job in 2011 to become an artist and follow his mission of ‘Waste no more’.
Today, he spends his life showing the world that you can make beautiful things out of waste. He gives discarded materials new life by transforming them into works of art on a large scale. He has created artworks in 20 countries on five continents, including the famous giant trolls, plastic works, birdhouses and Happy Wall exhibitions.
All of these projects have been realised using hundreds of tonnes of recycled materials and by working in and with local communities who are co-creators of the art he makes, because mission requires everyone to be involved.
See how Jeppe was born
In this video, Thomas Dambo shows from start to finish how the troll Jeppe Wall Blanket was born. The work has been about collaboration, sustainability, local involvement - and a lot of play.
