The Bike tour Skovturen through Mols Bjerge National Park

Enjoy a 12 km cycle route through the Kalø forests in scenic Djursland. Along the way you can take short detours to fascinating sights such as Thyrahytten, a small harmonious building in the well-known white Kalø half-timbering, St. Stenhøj, an approximately 3,000-year-old Bronze Age mound or Kalø Castle Ruins, one of Denmark's largest and most well-preserved medieval castles.

On your bike ride you can take short breaks and explore the area's gems. For example, visit Thyrahytten, just 100 metres from the route, or take a short 500-metre detour to St. Stenhøj. For history buffs, Kalø Castle Ruin is a must - a medieval castle with fascinating views and an exciting story.

The Kalø forests: History and nature in one

The bike ride takes you through the two forests Hestehave Skov to the west and Ringelmose Skov to the east. These forests have been an important resource throughout history, but they also represent a strong love of nature that the Von Jenisch family cherished. Impressive trees such as Baron Wilhelm's Beech and Baroness Oak stand as a symbol of the area's unique beauty.

Attractions and historical sights

Along the route you'll come across fascinating ancient monuments and springs as well as some of Denmark's oldest oak trees - including one of the oldest, which is over 350 years old and measures 6 metres in circumference. You can also visit the beautiful 15th-century Bregnet Church, which stands on a hilltop with traces of an older Romanesque church.

Another highlight is the Hunting Castle, which was once the hunting and summer residence of the German baron Martin Johan von Jenisch, former owner of the Kalø Estate. You can also visit the small houses Strandhuset and Thyrehytten, designed by the famous architect Hack Kampmann.

Karlsladen Visitor Centre

At Kalø Hovedgård you'll find the Karlsladen Visitor Centre, where you can delve into the natural and cultural history of the area. The exhibitions focus on ancient times, Kalø's history and hunting traditions. The centre is open every day from 9am to 9pm and you can enjoy storytelling by the campfire or explore the exhibitions about, among other things, the prisoner at Kalø Castle. Bring your packed lunch and take a break at the shelters at Kalø Hovedgård, at the campsite in Hestehave Skov or at Karlsladen. Accommodation options along the way

You can choose to spend the night on the tour in the shelters at Kalø Hovedgård or the campsite at Hestehaveskoven. Please note that you have to book shelter 1 and shelter 2 here.
