Again, the four Michelin restaurants in Aarhus each receives a shiny star in this year’s edition of the world’s most known gastronomic guide. Thus, this year’s Michelin host city preserves its star status. Furthermore, the Michelin host city expands its gastronomic status with a Bib Gourmand awarded to Restaurant Moment.
Aarhus belongs to the Nordic elite when it comes to gastronomic experiences. It is clear after the Michelin ‘Guide Nordic Countries’ yet again has awarded the Aarhus restaurants Frederikshøj, Gastromé, Substans and Domestic with a star in the iconic food bible. The 2019 edition of the prestigious star distribution has just taken place in The Concert Hall in Aarhus where Restaurant Moment in Djursland also received a Bib Gourmand for its sustainable gastronomy.
Hereby, Guide Michelin establishes the fact that the Aarhus region still delivers high class culinary art.
“Aarhus is currently in a rousing development and that goes not at least for the culinary scene where the city has been part of the Michelin league since 2015. Travelers around the world have to an increasing extent gastronomy as a prime motivation when choosing their destination. Therefore, the Michelin stars is a considerable help as to highlighting Aarhus on the world map. We congratulate the incredible restaurants in Aarhus that have been able to be mentioned in the new edition of the Michelin Guide,” says CEO in VisitAarhus, Peer H. Kristensen.
When the first couple of Michelin stars were distributed in Aarhus in 2015, the city experienced an increase of 17 percent in the number of commercial overnight stays. Thus, the city’s Michelin-awarded restaurants have helped to establish Aarhus as an attractive destination for cruise, conference and big city tourists.
Since Aarhus joined the Michelin community, economic growth and international attention have continued and in the last couple of years, the city has appeared on international prestigious lists such as the New York Times’ recommended cities and Lonely Planet’s top ten over European must-see-destinations. Likewise, Aarhus was the European Capital of Culture in 2017.
This was the first time ever the ‘Guide Nordic Countries’ took place in a non-capital city.
