The lakes in the Lake District

As its name indicates, the Lake District is home to a large number of lakes – some of which are among the cleanest in Denmark. The luxuriant landscape surrounding the lakes of the Lake District provides great conditions for flora and fauna.

Denmark’s Cleanest Lake

Denmark’s cleanest lake, Slåensø, is situated in Silkeborg Sønderskov between Silkeborg and Ry. You can actually drink the water in the lake, that is how clean it is. Several of the lakes are among the cleanest in Denmark, and several have received the Blue Flag certification as a sign of their top quality facilities.

Many of the lakes around the Lake District are very popular swimming lakes with great facilities, and there is something very special about swimming in freshwater, surrounded by stunning scenery.

Other lakes are great for fishing, and around several of them, you will find trails for hiking or cycling. In other words: The possibilities are endless when you want to explore the lakes, be it on land or on the water.
