Aarhus is the perfect starting point for a cycling holiday where you can experience both city life and the beautiful surrounding nature. Start your day with a ride along Aarhus' waterfront, where modern architecture meets the water and cafés buzz with life.

Practically all danes love their bikes. Many children og grown ups daily use the two-wheeled as their means of transport. Aarhus is one of the best bike cities in the world and the city has the ambition that even more of the residents's transportation should be by bike.

Aarhus have undertaken many creative methods to ensure a safe and easy passage of the city centre for the cyclists by, for instance, the creation of Denmark's first bicycle street.

In a modern city the bike has become a preferred, healthy and sustainable means of transportation which helps you get comfortably around in the city.

Aarhus is a great city for cycling. Its many cycle paths, the relative flatness of the surroundings, the short distances and the many green open spaces make the city perfect for cycling.

Visit the city's attractions

If you want to visit some of Aarhus' many attractions, you can start your trip either in Riis Skov or on Aarhus Ø, where you can visit Denmark's tallest building Lighthouse, cycle past the Iceberg and enjoy the atmosphere close to the water. Then cycle through the city to Ringgaden and visit the Botanical Gardens, the Old Town and the Greenhouses. From here you can continue further south and enter Brabrandstien and cycle all the way around Brabrand Lake - a great experience at any time of year. If you continue along Ringgaden, you'll reach Tivoli Friheden, Aarhus Stadium and Mindeparken, where Marselisborg Castle is also located.

Through the Marselisborg forests

From Marselisborg Castle there is a cycle path through Marselisborg Forest, where you can stop at Dyrehaven, the beach at Ballehage or Ørnereden or continue via Moesgård Museum all the way to Moesgård Beach.

A trip along the coast

If you cycle in the opposite direction from Marselisborg Castle, you can continue up the coast, take a stroll along the harbour and come down the old cycle path along Risskov, which was opened in the early 1900s and for the first few years you had to pay 25 øre to cycle. This path takes you to Risskov and on to Egå, Skæring and Kaløvig Boat Harbour.
